Goulburn is located on the busy Hume Highway corridor between Canberra and Sydney in NSW. Goulburn Square is located on the main retail strip within the CBD and is the largest main shopping destination in the town. A major redevelopment of the Centre was undertaken in February 2005 creating a modern vibrant shopping centre, increasing from 30 to 50 retailers and included many national brands such as Best and Less, EB Games, Prouds, Michael Hill, Noni B, StrandBags, Cotton On, and Bakers Delight.

Goulburn Square has a primary trade area with a population of 26,240 and a large rural secondary trade area which extends north to include the Southern Highlands, south to include Yass and Boorowa, east to Braidwood and to Crookwell in the west. The combined main trade area population was estimated in 2009 to be 44,520.
